About Anena Burger

Anena Burger is a freelance photojournalist/journalist for Volksblad, a daily Media24 newspaper in South Africa. Since 2010 her work has been published in various Media24 publications such as Die Burger, Beeld, Rapport and the Kalahari Bulletin.

 

Her work has a strong reportage influence as she aims to concentrate more on the emotional value of an image rather than sticking strictly to photographical rules.

 

"I try to capture unique moments in time. I want lock in the soul, emotion and the specific action that happened in that split second that I released the shutter.

"I don't care for the perfect subject...it's all about making that moment live forever. The photograph must seem as if it is breathing by the time I'm done with production."

 

She prefers working in low light conditions with strong contrasts to create her dramatic and unique style.
